There was a time when the adage, "you can't get there from here" was an accurate truism about Tillamook. For a long time, the Trask Trail was the only way in and out of Tillamook overland. It went through rough terrain through the coast range mountains. It was a miserable ride in an open wagon with the risk of getting soaked in a downpour or riding trough a cold, wet fog. Some travelers packed "heat", side arms, as show in the picture. Sometimes the mail could only be walked in once a week, by some poor guy in snow shoes.
Real-picture postcards show the history of the Oregon coast.
